The Ag & Water Desk is seeking a part-time, remote data journalist to support our coverage of water, agriculture, climate and environmental issues inside the Mississippi River basin.

The Ag & Water Desk is seeking a part-time data journalist to support our coverage of water, agriculture, climate and environmental issues inside the Mississippi River basin. In partnership with Report for America, the Desk works with reporters and editors at newsrooms across the basin to produce and distribute environmental content for news outlets to run for free. 

The part-time data journalist will work remotely on a flexible schedule, with an average of 5 hours per week, to support our journalists’ coverage of agriculture, water, climate change and more in the watershed. The ideal candidate will have experience working with datasets and a range of tools to evaluate, clean and analyze data, in order to find stories, trends and patterns. Experience working with data visualization tools, programming languages and/or spatial analysis is not required, but is a plus. This is a project-based position that will work closely with the Editorial Director on stories as assigned, with potential to pitch story ideas.

Compensation: $27-$45 per hour depending on qualifications, with an expected average of 5 hours per week.
